Seems to work for a few LG DVDs:

1) Power on player with no disc in tray
2) Wait for display to show "No Disk"
3) Press STOP
4) Press PAUSE
5) Key in 314159 (The display will now show "CODE 00")
6) Select your chosen region. For multi-region, select 0
6) Press PAUSE again
7) Power off player
8) Wait, turn it on, and away you go.
