I put this on DVD Reviewer
No hack is needed to play VCDs but to make it multi region , open the disc drawer, press setup and you get access to the preferences menu (most right hand icon) items such as TV type,PBC etc,enter the supervisor code (which is given in my manual for setting ratings in parental control) of 49540 , this brings up a grey box which says region code with a value in it, change it with the up /down buttons, setting it to 0 allows all regions , then press the play button to set it, the screen then returns to the preference menu. You will find it now works on all region discs, changing the country region in this menu has no effect.
Still looking for a hack to disable macrovision..
