dvd playing cd rom ?!?!?!

Hi all i have a alsba 114 dvd player i am really happy with it cos it is region free and it plays vcd svcd mp3 ect , but i went to put a copyed dvd in and its saying its a CDrom file ?!? i have tryed alsorts but just can`t get it to work altho it does on my mates player .
Can any 1 help please ?
