Lg dvd 5083 Help!

I have a an Lg 5083 dvd player, it won't play vcd's burnt on my cd burner (freecom nec),my friends player plays copied (backups) vcd's ,but if I copy them with my burner they dont work in his player or mine,my player won't play the ones that play in his.tried the hack mod off the net but my screen went green and now I can't even watch dvd's, can anyone help me I am crackin up. any help would be most greatfull
