I'm trying out DVD Decrypter VErsion 3.1.5.0
(Have tried out Super DVD ripper 1.90 but the quality drop is too
noticeable to be worth using it, for movies.)

It seems to work alright - but there's no audio running.
Running PowerDVD there's no sound at all.
With AllPlayer V2X there's only a voice over commentary.

I guess I don't know how to rip the DVD correctly to HD.
How are you suppose to copy the audio & video to HD?
And how to write it back to a DVD+R so that it can play in a
standard DVD player?

Thanks for any help.

Harvey

I just like to add - that I tested it with the 'Spiderman' movie, and
had the problems with the sound not working at all, with PowerDVD.

Just tried a short test with LOTR - Fellowship of the Ring,
and the sound works fine.

Any tips how to get the sound with Spiderman?

Harvey

There is no trick to using DVD Decrypter...Put in the DVD, Open DVD
Decrypter, File Mode > All Files, or Main Movie (depending on what you are
wanting to do) Rip. The audio and the video are all in there. Your problem
is more likely with PDVD. Perhaps when you try to run the movie, you should
try switching audio streams.

As you are a newbie...forget about DVD Decrypter for now and download a copy
of DVD Shrink from, uh, what was that site? Oh yeah, www.dvdshrink.org : )
Read the help files or find a guide (it's not hard to use) It will rip and
process the files (no need for DVD Decrypter) Then burn back to DVD with
your software of choice.

Here's a guide for DVD Shrink, use 2.3 it's the easiest.

It doesn't seem to be PowerDVD being the problem, because the commentary
has the normal soundtrack, behind it - and there's no problem with LOTR
which was perfectly copied to HD.

Though PowerDVD did show Spiderman alright (via Super DVD Ripper 1.90) but
with such a degraduation of image quality, it was very poor, and when I
tried it again much later on, the image quality was very much better
(with the same file) - but still with noticeable quality loss in the action
sequences.

I will try DVDShrink a good go, and see how it perform.
It is strange though that Super DVD ripper handled Spiderman with no
problems and DVD Decrypter got mixed up with it's audio.

Thank you for your advice and help.

Harvey

You got problems if you can't download and extract the smallest program.
It's a 3-400KB!

Just replace the "atearoa" with nz
and delete the _nospamplease
I'd appreciate it being sent to me - but not in it's original zip file.
Just unzip it, and place the exe file only in a new zip file.
I don't know why the original zip file comes up with an error all the time.

Thanks

Harvey

Well, I was close! Just didn't have the nz part to put in. You got
it by now though....

Finally managed somehow to unzip the DVDshrink.exe file.
It works - but still some sound problem with PowerDVD and
All Player seems to play the sound alright?
Still haven't 100% tested it properly yet.

Don't need the .exe file now.

Got DVDshrink working but still same sound problem as DVDcrypter.
With the Directors commentary - is this simply the voices overlaid with
the normal soundtrack? Or is it simply another separate audio stream?
Is there a DVD player which a very flexible control over the audio streams?
Or something better than PowerDVD?

Harvey

Can you reauthor and make a flat dvd? Baby steps first, then work your way up.
Rome wasn't built in a day! I spent months with video software, before I got
a dvd burner. Read, reread the help files and sites.
200+ burns, NO coasters. I did get nonchalant, and once left sound off a dvd.
MY FAULT, NOT HARDWARE OR SOFTWARE OR MEDIA!
Your problem is called "operator error"!

I'm inclined to think that you are choosing the wrong audio stream. What is
the disk you are ripping?

Well I finally got it kinda going.
Using DVDShrink, I only have the Audio
1. AC3 6-ch English stream of 351MB ticked,
re-authored and written to HD.

PowerDVD doesn't play any audio - no sound.
But All Player V2.X seems to play it (the actual soundtrack audio)
whereas last time it played the Directors commentary.

Now I have to figure out how to write it out to DVD such that
it will play on a DVD player - hopefully with sound running too.

Oooops, no that audio stream toggling doesn't do anything noticeable
in the end result. I was listening to a later part of the film,
and the directors' etc commentary runs out, so that's why I thought
it was somehow OK, but it's the same problem as before.

Still don't know why DVDShrink and DVDEncrypter are confused by the audio,
and Super DVD ripper was not.I think All Player can play another audio
stream, so that is probably a way to get the sound going, but not synching
in 100% though.

Tried Smartripper but same problems as with DVDshrink - with 1 more
compliance DVD file missing (3 missing, instead of 2).
I'm using the PAL version of Spiderman.
Using Nero 6 to write to DVD.

I for one have no idea what is going on over there...I've backed up around
200 movies with DVD Decrypter and DVD2One or DVD Shrink and have never had a
problem with Power DVD playing any of the processed files. You keep talking
about ripping the movie and then using DVD Shrink, I'm not sure what all you
have tried, but I know that if you rip a movie to your hard drive you have
to rip the full disk to then be able to use DVD Shrink. You probably know
that already.
