I am new to DVD recorders. I have just bought the Sony RDR-GX3. I live in
Holland but my Dutch is really bad and there's no English manual!

1st - I insert the 4x DVD+RW disk and I get the message 'Disc Error' 'Cannot
play this disc'. I read elsewhere that this player will not play 4 x, so I'd
need to get a 1-2x. Is this true?

2nd - Do I need to format the discs before they can record? I see a format
option on the machine but nothing that actually does it, it just gives 3
formatting options.

3rd - When I did the auto tune, my Digital Satellite Receiver (SKY DIGITAL),
connected via the scart lead, was on screen. I went through the other
channels to check them and now I can't get back to SKY. I can't see an AV
button on the remote.

Can anyone help me with these problems? Thanks!

When I connected my recorder I was getting a display that says HELLO.
I called the LITE-ON toll free support number.
The support people said I still didn't have the connections correct.
The HELLO on the display is waiting for a signal from the TV or VCR
before it will show a menu.

Great Support.

My Pioneer DVD-RW DVR-104 won't be recognized by Windows XP Home (SP2) once
I insert a
fresh disk. This is a new occurrence, as I've written disks successfully
previously. I've uninstalled and reinstalled numerous times and can play
and read disks ok. Just can't write to it.

Windows Explorer shows the DVD-RW drive, but once I insert a DVD-R, it
changes it to a CD drive.

Any thoughts?

Thanks

Recently, my Pioneer DVD-116 DVD drive will not recognize store-bought
DVDs. The drive will recognize burned DVDs, though - as well as data
DVDs.

The region code is set through Windows XP correctly, and is properly
reported through Windows and Nero InfoTool.

I'm stumped.

Any ideas?

There appear to be three different types of DVD media in use: DVD-R, DVD+R
and DVD-VR, besides the DVD-RW.
DVD RW has a different use, basically saving files which are likely to be
updated from time to time.
But what are the specific applications for the other three?
Are multi-session applications recordable only on DVD+R or DVD-RW?
If a TV program of 2 hours is to be recorded directly on a DVD, is DVD-R the
best medium?
If several episodes of a serial are to be edited to clip off commercials and
authored and burnt on DVD, is DVD-R usable? Or DVD+R is a must?
NeroVision Express refers to a medium called DVD-VR in its menu? In which
situation is this most appropriate? I have not seen it in any computer
shops? Is this the common commercial name of the medium?

I have just got a Pioneer DVR520HS recorder and have a couple of queries.
I am using it with a Thompson TV and all works OK.
Firstly, the manual says that I can control my TV with the Pioneer handset
by inputting a code (62). This is not working. Does anyone know of any
alternative codes?
Second, I want carry on using my existing Thompson VCR which has one screen
menus.
I have connected the VCR to the Pioneer and can only get the VCR menus up
and playback to work with the Pioneer turned off. This obviously means I
cant record on the Pioneer while watching a videotape on the Thompson.
Both machines automatically turn the Tv onto AV1 when connected and I
suspect this is the problem. There does not appear to be any way to alter
the output channel on either the Pioneer or the VCR so that I can set it up
on different TV channel.
All connections are SCART.
Any ideas please
Thanks

I have an inbuilt NEC DVD + RW ND1100A dvd player within a Dell
machine running windows xp. It also has Roxio Easy CD creator
installed.

I have some dvd+r discs which say "This disc is compliant with the new
standard for 1x-4x speed DVD +RW recording. Attempting to use this
disc with 2.4x speed DVD+RW/+R drives that do do not support 4x
recording speed..." will cause the end of the universe, etc.

When attempting to copy data onto a dvd+r disc via Roxio I can find
2.4X speed available. I have downloaded the latest firmware (I think)
from the Dell Website. Is there any way I can check before ruining
the disc whether it will be ok?

Thanks in advance.

I recorded Saving Private Ryan with an S-VHS VCR a few weeks ago, and I want
to burn it to DVD. Even after cutting out the commercials, the resulting AVI
file is well over two-hours in length. The compression needed to fit this
program on a single layer DVD is excessive, so I have purchased a few
Piodata DVD+R DL 2.4x DVDs. I went with Piodata because they are cheaper
than most other brands. I am familiar with the adage "You get what you pay
for.", but I am curious if anyone on this newsgroup has any comments general
or specific about Piodata DVD media.

I have finally got the Photo Viewer working on my Toshiba 3800 DVD.
It is slow, but working.

After following some of the posts to put a PICTURES folder on the
disc, I got it to work.

I also had to burn the CD my home computer, as the burner on my laptop
produced inconsistent results. I use the XP directCD software on both
machines.

I found this great little site. I signed up two weeks ago and got 2 Disney tickets and this week they are sending me 2 Universal Studios tickets. Here's the link http://66.219.102.40/ and by the way I am a real person, this is my real email address. I'm not a spammer and didn't appreciate the nasty email I got last time I tried to post this link.
